Best WordPress Plugins and What They Do

Best WordPress Plugins and What They Do!Ever wondered about all those plugins for WordPress and which ones are best for you?  Here’s your answer!  While in your dashboard, go to “Plugins” – “Add New” and simply type these in the search bar!

Akismet – Akismet is the comment spam fighter that comes built into WordPress and it does a mighty fine job.  Activate this plugin and you won’t need to moderate or captcha your comment submissions.  Akismet does 99% of the work for you.

All in One SEO Pack – Out-of-the-box SEO for your WordPress blog. Use this ONLY if your theme does not have the metatag fields provided (Title, Description, Keywords)

FT Signature Manager – FT Signature Manager allows each author on your blog to include a signature at the end of their posts.

Google Analytics & Google Analytics Dashboard – Check your analytics stats directly within WordPress! You need a google account to create analytics.

Google XML Sitemaps – This plugin will generate a special XML sitemap which will help search engines like Google, Yahoo, Bing and to better index your blog.

Post Page Associator – The Post-Page-Associator enables you to attach posts to a page.

Quick Cache (alternative to WP Super Cache) – If you care about the speed of your site, Quick Cache is one of those plugins that you absolutely MUST have installed. Quick Cache takes a real-time snapshot ( building a cache ) of every Page, Post, Category, Link, etc. These snapshots are then stored ( cached ) intuitively, so they can be referenced later.

SEO Smart Links – had to nix due to not playing friendly with other plugins! – SEO Smart Links can automatically link keywords and phrases in your posts and comments with corresponding posts, pages, categories and tags on your blog.  This plugin doesn’t work well with IDX plugins.  So as of 3/29/11, I’ve nixed it from this list!

Sexy Bookmarks – SexyBookmarks adds a (X)HTML compliant list of social bookmarking icons to each of your posts.

Thank Me Later – Automatically send a ‘thank you’ e-mail to those who comment on your blog. This plugin engages the visitor by reminding them to check back for responses or new blog posts. The plugin is highly configurable with multiple messages, variable delay and restrictions.

Online Backup for WordPress – Manages your WordPress database. Allows you to have your entire database emailed to you daily, weekly, or whenever you wish – and it’s easy to use!

WPTouch – WPtouch automatically transforms your WordPress blog into an iPhone application-style theme, complete with ajax loading articles and effects, when viewed from an iPhone, iPod touch, Android, Opera Mini, Palm Pre, Samsung touch and BlackBerry Storm/Torch mobile devices.
